W.O.W. was founded in 1986 by Jeannie McCullough
in Bethany, Oklahoma.
It began with a small group of mothers of preschool-age children averaging about 12 women in their weekly Bible study at Bethany First Nazarene Church. Jeannie's vision was to host a Bible study open to women of all ages. On the beginning day, September 23, 1986, more than 200 women gathered together. W.O.W. quickly grew to over 400 members the first year. Today the local enrollment is approaching 1,000 and it includes men, women, and children of all ages and many denominations. W.O.W. has been an instrument in uniting the community of believers as well as reaching the unchurched and the lost and is ministering to thousands through videos and tapes, and other programs such as children's Bible study, prison ministry, and missions.

We acknowledge that this Bible study is HIS. It's successfulness is only because of His faithfulness to His word and because He has chosen to honor and bless us as we have prayed, studied, and endeavored to be radically obedient to His voice.

W.O.W. began as " Women of the Word " It reflected who we were and our purpose for meeting. But we soon found out the name we thought we had originated was also being used by other groups. Our attemps to incorporate and legally register the name and obtain a trademark met with complications. However the name no longer reflected who we were and maybe God had a different name for us. Coed groups had already been started as "Wisdom of the Word" and it became clear to us that this should be the name of our parent organization, with branches of "Women of the Word", "Children of the Word", and "Workmen of the Word" operating under it.
In 1995,"Wisdom of the Word" was chosen as our new name, not only so that we could retain our idenity as " W.O.W. " but because it reflects our mission.

"TO HAVE OUR LIVES VISIBLY CHANGED BY GAINING WISDOM FROM GOD'S WORD AND RESPONDING IN RADICAL OBEDIENCE TO HIS VOICE."

Goals:
Jeannie has four goals for our students:

A. To be students of the Word.
B. To be people of prayer.
C. To cultivate listening hearts.
D. To be radically obedient to His Word.

Purpose:

A. To get men women and children into a personal daily study of the Word.
B. To teach knowledge and practical applications of the Scripture to daily living.
C. To provide accountability to each other for the study of the Word.
D. To provide opportunity to share what God is teaching us through the Word.
E. To provide support to each other through prayer and fellowship.
F. To unite poeple of all ages in our churches and communities.
G. To be an outreach to others:
_ 1. To our families
_ 2. To our community
_ 3. To other churches
_ 4. To the mission fields and prisons
H. To be a channel through which the word can change lives.
I. To worship Him
